Jamie was a privileged young man, coming from the family of an important tradesman. This made Jamie just a little too content and a bit lazier than some of his peers. He had very little ambition having been provided so many comforts as to take them for granted. One day during prayer, he asked God to show him his purpose in life, to show what he could do to make the world in which he lived more meaningful. Jamie knew that while he had everything he needed, he felt a complete lack of knowledge about the world outside his own. One day he posed this same question to his father and mother, and they decided to send Jamie to live with his Uncle Obed, a farmer that lived many miles away. In this way Jamie could seek out what it was he might be looking for in life, and better understand how other people lived.
